Sudbury Royals take home 2016 Metrowest title

2016 BMBL Metrowest Champions - Sudbury Royals

For the second straight year, the Sudbury Royals (14-2) and the defending champion Hudson Mets (14-2) earned their way back to the MSBL MetroWest Finals. For the Royals, this was a chance at redemption after falling to the Mets in the first-ever BMBL MetroWest Championship Series last season. For the Mets, it was a chance to successfully defend their title and repeat as MetroWest champions.

The storyline in the 2016 postseason was the Royals' dominating pitching staff, anchored by Chris Dion (2-0, 0.50 ERA, 19 K) and Jon Shepard (3-0, 0.00 ERA, 28 K's). The duo assembled a perfect 5-0 record with 47 Ks, while allowing just one earned run in the entire postseason. Offensively, the Royals hit .356 as a team, with six different players batting over .400.

Backed by a solid offense and dominant pitching staff, the 2016 Royals finished the postseason with a 6-1 record, including a two-game sweep of the Mets (4-3, 4-0) in the best-of-three Championship Series.

After a devastating loss in Game 3 of the 2015 Finals, the Sudbury Royals would get their redemption just one season later, taking home the 2016 MetroWest title after defeating the Hudson Mets 4-3 and 4-0 in Games 1 and 2 respectively.

Congratulations to the 2016 BMBL MetroWest Champs, and kudos to the Hudson Mets on reaching the Finals for the second straight season.
