Metro Red Sox win Masters Division championship

The Metro Red Sox have won the 2012 MSBL Masters division championship and their sixth title in the past eight seasons, with a two-game sweep (12-3, 2-1) of the Waltham Braves in the best-of-three Championship Series.

The Sox were backed by strong pitching performances from Kevin Curtin (2-0, 19 IP, 12 K's, 1.47 ERA) and Rob Stephenson (2-0, 9 IP, 5 K's, 1.56 ERA), while Russ Ward (7-12, 2 RBI, 3 R) and Steve Bessette (7-16, 3 RBI, 5 R) led the offense with seven hits apiece in the postseason.

The Red Sox finished the 2012 regular season with a league-best 15-1 record, earning themselves a first-round bye in the postseason and an automatic bid to the Semifinals, where they faced the No. 4-seeded Winchester Chiefs (9-6-1).

After the two teams split Games 1 and 2 of their semifinal matchup, the series came down to a drama-filled Game 3. Trailing 3-2 in the bottom of the 7th of the series-deciding game, Rob Stephenson got to play the role of hero for the Red Sox — hitting a 2-run walk-off home run that sent his team to the Masters Finals for the sixth time in the franchise's ten-year history.

The Red Sox carried the momentum of their thrilling come-from-behind, walk-off victory in the semis over to the Finals, where they went on to defeat the No. 3-seeded Waltham Braves in two games (12-3, 2-1), taking home the 2012 MSBL Masters title.

Congratulations to the Metro Red Sox on winning the 2012 MSBL Masters Championship and hats off to the Waltham Braves on reaching the Finals for the third consecutive year.
