They say that old age and treachery always defeats youth and skill. In both games of the 2021 BMBL All-Star doubleheader held at Brandeis University on Saturday, July 31st, this appeared to hold true.

In the first of two games, the Masters 38+ All-Stars defeated the MSBL Metrowest 28+ All-Stars by a final score of 6-2.

The Masters' squad jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in the bottom of the 1st, with runs from Billy Traft (Milton Breakers) and Jason Demattia (Somerville Alibrandis).

The MetroWest All-Stars responded in the top of the 2nd, as Mike Feetham (Metrowest Royals) singled and later scored to cut the lead in half, 2-1.

The Masters' All-Stars added another run in the bottom of the 5th after Carlos Escano (Los Gigantes) singled and later scored on a sac fly from teammate Phil Martin.

Up 3-1 in the bottom of the 7th, the senior circuit plated three more insurance runs and put the game out of reach. Jason Demattia (Somerville Alibrandis), Mike Gavin (Swampscott Gators), and John Volpini (Saugus Sea Dogs) scored the insurance runs for the Masters.

Jay Thomas (South Shore Giants) earned the win for the Masters, giving up one run on two hits in three innings of work. Ethan Solomon (Avi Nelson Rockies), Mike Barthel (Avi Nelson Rockies), and Billy Rolls (Los Gigantes) all pitched valiantly in relief to help secure the 6-2 win for the Masters All-Stars.

Jay Hussey (Metrowest Royals) doubled in the 9th and teammate Steve Robb scored on a sac fly to complete the scoring for the MetroWest All-Stars.

Ray Begin (Douglas Tigers) was charged with the loss. Seven pitchers in total took the mound for the MetroWest side in the losing effort.

In the second of two All-Star games, the MSBL 28+ All-Stars defeated the MABL 18+ All-Stars 7-4, backed by a five-run 8th inning.

The MABL squad jumped out to an early lead in the 1st, when Derek Pizarro (Middleboro Mocka Rays) singled and later scored all the way from second on a dropped third strike.

In the 3rd, Pizarro drove in a run with his second single of the game, scoring Alec Christian of the Waltham Athletics.

In the top of the 4th, Mike Addesa (Somerville Senators) helped put the MSBL 28+ team on the board, after being hit by a pitch and later scoring on a Mike Smith (South Shore Spartans) RBI single.

In the bottom of the 5th, Rob Prenovitz (South Shore Grays) scored the MABL's third run of the day after reaching first base on an errant throw and later scoring on a subsequent error.
