Chiefs sweep their way to Masters championship

Winchester Chiefs - 2013 Master's Division Champions

With a 10-6 victory in Game 3 of the Masters Division Finals on Wednesday night, the Winchester Chiefs pulled off a three-game sweep of the top-seeded Metro Red Sox to take home the 2013 Masters Division championship.

The No. 3-seeded Chiefs composed a 6-1 record in the postseason with series wins over the Watertown Spartans, Somerville Highlanders, and Metro Red Sox, outscoring opponents by a combined margin of 61-33.

In the regular season, the Chiefs finished with a record of 11-6, and led the league in average (.402), hits (226), triples (12), and run differential (+86). The team also had individual league leaders in hits, runs, RBIs, and triples.

Using a league-high 13-man pitching staff, the Chiefs produced the league's lowest ERA at 2.07. Jeff Roach (5-1, 1.47 ERA) anchored the staff with a 5-1 record and a league-leading 32 K's.

In the postseason, Billy Smeglin was dominant on the mound after coming off a year-long injury. Smeglin was the winning pitcher in Game 1 of both the semifinals and Finals, allowing just 3 runs over 13 innings to help lead his team to their first Masters title.

Congratulations to the Winchester Chiefs on winning the 2013 Masters Division championship, and hats off to the Metro Red Sox on a fine season and a great run in the playoffs.
