| ACTON ORIOLES WIN MSBL MASTER'S CHAMPIONSHIP!
October 26, 2011:
On October 3, 2011, the Acton Orioles defeated the Waltham Braves, 2-0, to win the best of 3 series and the 2011 Boston Men's Baseball
League Masters Division (40+) Championship. The win was a perfect ending to a season that saw the O's compile an 11-3 regular season record,
averaging over 10 runs per game. In the finals, unlike their last trip to the championship in 2004 when the Orioles swept the
Duxbury Twins, the O's and Braves battled each other closely to the very end. Having lost the first game of the series to the
Braves, facing elimination, the O's won the final 2 games by a total margin of 4 runs.
In the deciding 3rd game, Steve Fahey's 6th inning, two-out hit scored Dennis Fontecchio to break the scoreless tie. Steve Pratt
then hustled home on a wild pitch for an insurance run. Catcher Jed Webber, infielders Fahey, Dave Rutyna, Fontecchio, Jim Jackman,
and outfielders Pratt, Charlie Tinschert and Bill Rhodes provided solid defense behind pitcher Larry Shade (5K), who shut out the
heavy-hitting Braves. Along the way to the championship, the O's were also supported by a cast that included Dave Mayo,
Rick Hoffman, Jeff Poretto, Steve Pinner, Jon Decosta and Don Papineau.
Congratulations to the Waltham Braves on a tremendous season. They fought hard throughout the finals and have much to be proud of
for their efforts and accomplishments.

| BOSTON CUTTERS TAKE HOME MABL CHAMPIONSHIP!
October 18, 2011:
In the 2011 MABL Finals, the Cutters took the first 2 games of the series. The Grays fought back by winning the next 2 to
force a decisive game 5. Game 5 of the Finals did not disappoint with intensity and great all around baseball as both
teams combined for five home runs and played stellar defense.
Homeruns by Mike Gulinello and Patrick Potter put the Grays ahead 2-0, but the Cutters answered back with timely hits
from Steve Lambert, Adam Del Rio, and Jeff Coveney, including a 3-run homerun by John Pollard, to take a 7-2 lead going
into the bottom of the 5th. The Grays came firing back with homeruns from Steve Baldassari and Matt Ferro (3rd in 2 games)
to narrow the Cutter lead to 7-5. In the innings that followed, the Cutters stretched the lead to 10-5 behind a Steve
Lambert sac fly and a 2-run single by Scott Ellis. The Cutters' Lambert closed the door on the game and the series,
picking up the save in relief of Matt Richard (3rd win in a championship clinching game), allowing only 1 run in the game's
final 3 innings.
For the Cutters, standouts for the series included co-MVPs Adam Del Rio (6-15, 6 RBI, 5 2B) and Steve Lambert (7-19, 5 RBI,
3 2B; 1.40 ERA, 10 IP). Also, John Pollard (4-13, 8 RBI, two 3-run HRs) contributed significantly to the series win.
For the Grays, their gutsy performance and hot postseason run will not soon be forgotten.
Offensively, this Grays team packed a punch. In all, they hit 8 homeruns, 5 of which were hit by Matt Ferro (3)
and Patrick Potter (2). Not to be overlooked, Tom Plumitallo spun a 1-hitter against the Cutters to notch the first
final round game victory for the Grays in franchise history.
The 2011 championship is the 3rd in 5 years for the Cutters. It was also the 4th championship for AJ Bucciarelli and
6th title for Jeff Coveney. Congratulations to both the Grays and Cutters on an amazing, hard fought series.

| SCITUATE TIDES CAPTURE MSBL NL CHAMPIONSHIP!
October 17, 2011:
The Scituate Tides defeated the Waltham Red Sox 2 games to 1 to clinch their 3rd straight National League title and 5th in 7 years.
Having finished the regular season with a record of 18-4, leading the league in runs scored and allowing the fewest opponent runs,
the Tides entered the playoffs with the top seed. In the playoffs, the Tides beat North Andover and a strong East Boston Bomber
squad before facing Waltham in the finals.
It was a very well played series by both sides, with the teams splitting the first 2 games to set up a winner take all Game 3.
The Tides prevailed behind the arm of Rob Monti (4-0 in post season, 1.56 ERA). Jeremy Winters (.478 AVG, 2B, HR, 6 RBI in playoffs)
hit a solo home run in the 5th and Mike Khoury (3 HR, 10 RBI in playoffs) hit a 2 run bomb in the 6th to put the game out of reach.
Rob Linn (.593 AVG, 4 2B, 6 RBI, 10 R) was great behind the dish, calling a great game and throwing out the possible tying run in 5th.
Other Tides standouts in the playoffs included Chris Dean (.500 AVG, 2B, 3B, 5 RBI), Tim Hart (2 2B, 1 3B, 6 RBI, 1-1 on the hill) and
Mike Barthel (.421 AVG, 1-1 on the hill) who pitched the Tides to a huge game 1 win in the finals, going 7 innings and allowing only 2
hits. Derek and Dakota Happas, Tony Anderlionis and Winters played very strong D throughout the post season.

| MILTON BREAKERS CAPTURE MSBL AL CHAMPIONSHIP!
October 17, 2011:
The Milton Breakers defeated the North Shore Vipers 8-3 on Thursday, October 6th in Lynn to win the American League Championship for the
third time in the last four years. Rich Kisiel threw six strong innings for the Breakers in the series finale, scattering seven hits, while
allowing just three runs. Offensively, John O'Brien led the way for Milton with two hits & three RBI, while AJ Joy had two hits
& knocked in two, and Chris Festa had two doubles and an RBI.
The Breakers defeated the Brockton A's in the semi-finals and the
North Shore Black Sox in the first round. Milton's 6-0 playoff run was fueled by outstanding pitching from co-aces Rich Hartman &
Rich Kisiel who each threw 22 innings and won three games, allowing just five earned runs and striking out 38 batters along the way.
O'Brien, Aaron Foley, Kurt Gaudet and Festa led the way offensively, with clutch hits and multiple RBI games throughout the Breakers
postseason run. Milton was 18-6 in the regular season, finishing with a 24-6 record overall.

| THE 8TH ANNUAL 100 INNINGS OF BASEBALL - OCTOBER 8-9
September 29, 2011:
The 100 Innings of Baseball Spectacular was born 8 years ago with the arrival of Curt Schilling to the Boston Red Sox as a fundraiser for Curt's Pitch for ALS to aid the fight against Lou Gehrig's disease.
2011 proceeds will support the ALS Clinic at Beth Israel where Walter Bentson, our umpire chief, continues his mission to fight ALS. The world's longest game continues 100 straight innings and lasts about 33 consecutive hours, and to date has raised $488,000.
Play 1 inning or play 100, we are now recruiting baseball players aged 18 to 100 to play in this charity baseball game to support ALS.
To date, this game has raised just under half-a-million dollars for Lou Gehrig's disease.
Registration to play in this charity game will be $40, payable at the field. A minimum donation to ALS of $60 will also be collected at the field. We urge particpants to set personal goals for fundraising of $1,000 -- that's just 20 people at $50 each!
Date: Saturday, October 8, 9:00 a.m. through Sunday, October 9, whenever 100 innings are complete
