BMBL Expands Footprint and Divisions Ahead of 2026 Season
Growth is part of baseball, and this off-season marked a significant step forward for the Boston Metro Baseball League (BMBL). After completing the 2025 season with 37 teams, already the largest amateur baseball league in New England, the BMBL will open the 2026 season with a minimum of 51 teams. That represents a remarkable 37.8% growth in a single year.
At a time when many amateur leagues across Greater Boston are facing challenges, we are proud to see continued momentum, stability, and expansion across our divisions.
Expanding Age Divisions
One of the most exciting areas of growth has been within our age-based divisions, reflecting the league's commitment to providing competitive baseball opportunities for players at every stage of their playing careers.
18+ Division
Our 18+ division welcomed several well-known clubs, including the Al Thomas Athletics and East Boston Knights, both formerly of the Yawkey League. With the Yawkey League pausing operations for the 2026 season, we are proud to provide a competitive home for many of its players and teams while they look ahead to the future.
28+ Divisions
In the 28+ MetroWest division, the Medway Reds joined the league, further strengthening our Route 495 presence.
Meanwhile, the 28+ Boston division continues to grow as well, highlighted by the Greater Boston Bandits expanding their organization to include a 28+ team alongside their existing 18+ club.
New 45+ Division
In addition to our established 38+ division, the BMBL is proud to introduce a brand-new 45+ division. Following the folding of the Boston Amateur Baseball League's (BABL) 45+ division, six teams have joined the BMBL: the Cambridge Nine, Quincy Patriots, Scituate Mariners, South Shore Giants, North Shore Chiefs, and Woburn Nationals. These additions ensure that veteran players continue to have a competitive and well-organized place to play. Scott Isaacs will serve as commissioner for both divisions.
Expanding Our Footprint
"Go West," they say. And for 2026, the BMBL has done exactly that.
New Central Mass Division
For the upcoming season, the BMBL has expanded further beyond MetroWest through the acquisition of the Leominster Baseball League. This division will now operate as the 35+ Central Mass division, with Scott Fuller remaining as commissioner.
The division will feature six teams: the Grays, Vipers, Nationals, Brewers, Giants, and Dodgers. This expansion strengthens the league's regional presence while creating new competitive opportunities for players across Central Massachusetts.
Looking Ahead
What makes this growth meaningful is not simply the increase in teams, but what it represents: more players, deeper competition, and expanded opportunities to continue playing baseball across multiple age levels.
The Boston Metro Baseball League remains committed to building a stable, competitive, and well-organized environment for amateur baseball throughout the region.
We thank our players, managers, and commissioners for continuing to help grow something special. We look forward to an outstanding 2026 season.
