Each manager nominated one representative from their team to be on the MVP ballot. All of the managers then voted on their top five players from the ballot. Players received 5 points for a 1st place vote, 4 points for a 2nd place vote, 3 points for a 3rd place vote, 2 points for a 4th place vote and 1 point for a 5th place vote. Managers could not vote for players from their own team. In the event of a tie, the following tie-breakers were used: the player appearing on the most ballots breaks tie. If a tie remains, the player receiving the highest seed vote would break a tie. If a tie still remains, the vote is deemed a tie.
