| BLUEJAYS COME FROM
BEHIND TO WIN MABL CHAMPIONSHIP
September 30, 2010:
In one of the most memorable championship series in recent years, the Bluejays scored two runs in the bottom
of the 7th to win the 5th and deciding game of the MABL Finals
over the Cambridge Spinners, 3-2.
With the Jays leading 1-0 in a pitchers duel with solid defense from both sides, the Spinners plated 2 in the 6th to take a 2-1 lead. In the bottom of the 6th, the Jays stranded runners on 2nd and 3rd.
Move to the bottom of the 7th; Jake Stewart, Dakota Happas and Eddie Pickett hit 3 consecutive singles to load the bases. Dana Levensaler's sac fly ties the game and with runners on 1st and 2nd, Rob Linn hits a slow grounder to 2nd and Spinners try to turn 2, Linn barely beats the throw to first. Happas never stops coming around from second and beats the throw to the plate to score the game winning run. |

| 2010 REGULAR SEASON
WRAP UP
September 8, 2010: MABL
Recap: The 2010 MABL
playoffs start on Wednesday with the following matchups: Atlantic
Division: (1) Blue Jays vs (4) Ben's
Dream White Sox - What a difference a year can make
as the Blue Jays ended the season with the best record in the
MABL and winners of the Atlantic Division after a disappointing
year last year in which they did not qualify for the post season.
Kyle Buika, MABL Cy Young Candidate, and the
Blue Jays will face off against the Whitesox and MVP Candidate
Ivan Clemente. (2) Cutters
vs (3) Lawrence Dbacks - The Cutters
and MABL MVP Candidate Adam Del Rio look to
defend their 2009 Championship title against the Dbacks.
All series are best of 3
Baystate Division: (1) Spinners
vs (4) Senators-The Spinners take on the Senators
who punched their ticket to the playoffs with an 8-3 record
in their last 11 games to lock up the 4th seed on the arm of
Cy Young Candidate Mike Cook. During the regular
season though the Spinners took 2 out 3 against the Senators
and MVP Candidate Nick Bonard led the charge.
(2) Tigers vs (3) Reds - Reds
swept the season series vs the Tigers in 3 very good battles.
Manager Brett Nowlin and the Reds looks to
carry that momentum over into the Playoffs but will have their
work cut out for them versus Eric Harvey, MABL
Cy Young Candidate, and a veteran Tigers team.
National Year of Parity: The
National League was extremely competitive this year
with Waltham Red Sox leading the regular season
with 17 wins and a whopping +90 differential between runs scored
and runs allowed. Natick Knights took the batting
title with a team batting average of .357. Scituate
Tides had great pitching again to lead the league with
a team ERA of 1.32 allowing an unbelievably low 60 runs for
the season. Three new teams - the Braintree Braves,
the Cambridge Cantabs and the Lexington
Blue Sox had great years with Lexington edging out
Cambridge for the last playoff spot in the last game of the
year.
American Tradition: The
Newton Red Sox were back again on the top of the American League standings at the end of the regular season with the Middlesex Brewers (league leader in runs scored) and first year JM Force of Hyde Park only a point behind. The other usual suspects again moved on to the the playoffs including two-time defending champions Milton Breakers (led league in fewest runs allowed), the Lynn Lugnuts (league lowest ERA), Boston Braves, Medford Angels and Roxbury Panthers (league leader in BA).
MSBL 40+ Masters Division: The MSBL
40+ Masters Division welcomed two new teams this year, the Lynn
Lugnuts and the Waltham Braves expanding
the league to 10 teams and featuring a new playoff format where
the top 6 seed compete for the Masters title and the last
4 seeds square off in the first Masters 40+ "B"
Division Championship. The Metro Red Sox nearly
went undefeated on a pitching staff that allowed only 37 runs
and earning the top seed again this year. Both the Acton
Orioles and Braves also pitched well yielding only
65 runs each in the regular season. There was no shortage of
offense this season as the Wellesley Monarchs,
Orioles, Woody's Brewers, Red Sox, and Quincy
Grays all scored more than 100 runs. |

| PLAYING BALL IN CUBA
February 14-21, 2010:
Through the program, Baseball
Adventures, BMBL players Russ Ward
and Steve Wolf travelled to Cuba in a rare
opportunity to be a Baseball Ambassador and play baseball in
this forbidden paradise against former Cuban National Team Players.
Cubans play baseball with more passion, much like it used to
be in the USA. They play everywhere and at all ages. You'll
see kids in fields playing with sticks for bats, taped up rocks
for balls and no glove. The Cubans have very little baseball
gear and by the end of the week, we had given away all our baseballs,
cleats, gloves, bats and other equipment walking away from the
last game shirtless, shoeless and only in shorts.
